In preparation for our interview with Guy Kawasaki, I purchased a copy of APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur-How to Publish a Book.

Guy KawasakiI’ve read the majority of Guy Kawasaki’s books and have been a fan for quite some time (be sure to tune into the interview for the first time he tweeted to me… funny story!). This book is quite different, though… it’s a detailed step-by-step instruction book on how to self-publish your ebook.

Authors Guy Kawasaki and Shawn Welch begin APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur with the true story on Guy’s frustration with getting his last publication electronically distributed with a mass purchase from a company. The book then walks through all the challenges of ebooks – from formats, to tools, to distribution to marketing. It’s much more difficult than you’d think (until this book!).

The book details all the proven methods for creating your ebook, right down to screenshots of tools to use, sites to utilize, and outlets to market. I was really amazed at all the detail. It’s truly a step-by-step instruction guide for anyone to self-publish.

We were first impressed with the opportunities of self-publishing when we interviewed Jim Kukral. Jim pointed out to us that the demand curve for ebooks was climbing much faster than the actual output of ebooks. This is an incredible time for individuals or companies to build credibility and authority by publishing an ebook.
