Facebook Disabled My Account

No warning, no reason provided, no email explaining why… my Facebook pages are disabled, my Facebook apps are disabled, and my Facebook Account is disabled. A few days ago, I had to reset my password – Facebook saw that someone was trying to login with my account from Northern Indiana. I’m not sure whether or not this had any impact on this incident.

Pretty stupid if you ask me. And it reaffirms my advice to all companies – don’t rely on Facebook or any other platform to be your primary means of communication. I do have some friends that are close to the teams at Facebook – I’m going to see what I can do to get the account re-enabled. I’ve already made the request through their help page.

On a side note: As a parent, I’m also upset… I’m able to keep an eye on my daughter through my Facebook account.

Maybe Facebook got ticked that you were putting all of your Tweets on there. 😉

All joking aside, you are correct in your advice to businesses. You do not own your Facebook presence. Facebook does.

I’ve thought about that, Chuck. Seems silly though since I’m using their Twitter integration feature to do it!

Your second point is dead on… this is why we can’t have one company own the Internet.

Post is updated with a letter received to verify my identity… which seems ridiculous since I have multiple apps, multiple pages, a ton of friends – and I’ve been on Facebook for years now.

Oh crap, Doug. That’s really scary they would just turn it off like that without notice. I never really gave it any thought as to how easily all that could be taken away.

It’s crazy to think that people and businesses invest thousands of dollars per month into their Facebook and Twitter “properties” with really no guarantees that they will even be there tomorrow.

Hope you get it figured out.

Exact same thing happened to me on Monday, Doug. I received the same generic email, AFTER I had already changed my password on my own. I replied to their email within 7 minutes, and still haven’t heard back. It’s frustrating considering there’s no official explanation from FB on exactly what happened/why. I was a member of your Navy Vets app as well, I wonder if it’s happened to others in the group.

Got a note from a client that all 10 of their Administrators, including me, had their #Facebook accounts disabled today. I have access, but don’t actually work on their page personally. It will be interesting to see if this had anything to do with this. I also read that Facebook has a bug back in November that disabled a bunch of accounts. I’ll continue to keep you all posted.

Doug, I’m sure they’ll get it resolved for you. You have to have a pretty robust automated system if you have 500 million customers and most of the inquiries are already addressed in Help. Keep us updated. Amen that you can’t rely on any one source. That’s not a knock on Facebook, since isn’t it just as likely (maybe more likely) that your website would go down and Facebook be up?

And it always helps to know people on the inside.

I guess we’ll see, Kenan! The truly bad part of this experience was that I was really starting to adjust to Facebook and getting less negative about them trying to ‘own’ the Internet. I’ll survive this fine… but with almost half the Earth on Facebook, you would think their methods weren’t just black and white. If there were suspicious activity, they could let me know about it.

After all, I am a PAYING member of Facebook, having purchased Facebook Ads to grow my communities there. In an instant, without my knowledge and without ANY recourse that’s all gone. Seems like they would be a little more responsible to the folks that are promoting Facebook, buying advertising there, and consulting with companies on how to best leverage it.

Interesting, Doug. Mine is still deactivated (since 1/10). Sent a second reply to their generic email this morning. But you’re right, this does reaffirm to companies that they should never rely on FB 100% as a “dedicated” part of their social business.

Same thing happened to me 10 days ago. I’ve written to Facebook every single day – NO response! Can’t call them on the phone . . . they don’t answer! Customer support is horrible – actually, non-existant. Ridiculous for a company that says how “friendly” they are! Not when it comes to having a problem!

My Facebook account has been disabled today…I’m not as mad as I though I would be. But I still emailed Facebook I even had my girlfriend start a group on Facebook with my name in it so they will let back on!

Hi my name is TaShe. My account was disabled out of the blue like 3weeks ago. I have spent so much time trying to get in touch with the Facebook staff, but I have not received a reply. I cannot create another page until they reply because they say that is ALSO a violation of their rules. So what am I supposed to do? My info and everything else I could possibly need was on Facebook. I did have a nickname between my first and last name which may have been the case, but I received no warning. The bad part about this is that I am not receiving a response from Facebook and I have been waiting for almost a month. This is frustrating me because until I get some kind of response to Facebook,I can’t even create a new account. What do I do man???

Hi my name is Sharon. My fb account was also disabled without any warning on the 29th March 2011 and I have no idea why. I have all my friends, family and colleagues on fb and it saddens me to be left out of all the updates and info related to my work which i receive regularly. It is easy to say not to rely on fb but if the rest of my friends and family are on fb and they rely on fb to contact each other what choice do i have!! I miss them so much and i also miss playing farmville which i had started back in 2009 and spent real cash on it and all of a sudden it is all gone! What upsets me most is that i got no reply from fb yet! I just wish it will be returned !!

I am in the same position as you.  My childrens pictures and pictures of my deceased fiance are all on my account and I can now never recover them? Why was I disabled with no response or anything? I have nothing inappropriate on my page and I would think they would investigate these things before just disabling someone.  Its frustrating but I guess there is nothing that can be done. NOt FAIR
