Grow: Build The Ultimate Internet Marketing Dashboard
We’re big fans of visual performance indicators. Currently, we automate monthly executive reports to our clients and, within our office, we have a large screen that displays a real-time dashboard of all our clients’ internet marketing key performance indicators. It’s been a great tool – always letting us know which clients are getting superior results and which ones have an opportunity for improvement.
While we currently use Geckoboard, there are a couple of limitations we’re running into as we continue to fine-tune the dashboard, optimize it, and add clients. Geckoboard has a large selection of widgets that are simple to add and organize onto a dashboard. However, they’re not very customizable – with limited, hard-coded options.
Grow offers a fully customizable dashboard with several advantages:
- Sizing – Each of the widgets can be sized beyond simple dimensions.
- Overlays – Instead of an independent source on each widget, you can overlay multiple data sources. So imagine conversions and revenue overlayed on top of website paid traffic!
- Data Sources – If canned widgets aren’t enough, you can also add your own data sources by connecting to any online data source and charting the output using Grow’s widgets.
We’re giving some serious thought to developing custom internet marketing dashboards for each of our clients and then doing away with our reporting altogether. While it would require some work for us to complete the transition, there would actually be a cost savings overall in migrating our clients this direction. And no need for reporting – now we’d have all the data in real-time.
Within our conversation with the Grow representative, they may even have alerts coming soon to the platform. That would be a no-brainer with our transition. Imagine being notified on a spike in traffic or a drop in leads!
