Social Media & Influencer Marketing

HypeAuditor: Your Influencer Marketing Stack For Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or Twitch

Over the last few years, I’ve really ramped up my affiliate and influencer marketing initiatives. I’m quite selective in working with brands – ensuring that the reputation that I’ve built doesn’t get tarnished while setting expectations with the brands on how I may be able to assist. Influencers are only influential because they have an audience that trusts, listens, and acts on their shared news or recommendations. Start selling crap and you’re going to lose the trust of your audience. Lose their trust and you’re no longer an influencer!

When asked what influencers would like to see in pitches from brands:

  • 59% of influencers stated they’d like to see a clear idea of available budgets and expected deliverables
  • 61% of influencers want a clear description of the product or service to be advertised
  • More than half (51%) asked for information on the company they would be aligning with

I often push the companies that I work with for tracking links and often open up with a test that doesn’t cost them anything unless it refers some actual revenue to their bottom line. That way the companies I work with don’t feel like I’m ripping them off if the campaign doesn’t meet expectations. Likewise, they don’t feel bad about cutting me a check if I move a new client their way. If it’s a mutual fit between the audience, the business, and myself with full disclosure along the way… the relationship typically blossoms.

That said, a single campaign typically doesn’t move the needle. The successes that I’ve had are companies that stuck with me for a year or more where I’m repeatedly giving them a nod or some attention. That’s why it’s imperative that the brands that I work with utilize a great influencer marketing platform for tracking the progress of our relationship.
