SXSW 2014 Interactive Infographic Wrapup

One of the cool things about our partner Meltwater’s social media monitoring software is that you can monitor topics and events thoroughly to get a full picture of the sentiment and popularity. This year, they started monitoring the buzz around SXSW on February 26 and found some pretty interesting trends:

  • NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden, was a big deal. 7% of all the social buzz was Snowden related.
  • Men posted a lot more to social: 62% versus 38% for women.
  • Justin Bieber had 400% more mentions than Grumpy Cat! (Say whaaaa?)

    Hey John – Good questions. I produced this infographic, so I’ll answer: we monitored the interactive portion of the conference specifically, which ran from March 7-11. So, it doesn’t mention the horrible accident that occurred on March 12. We do agree that it’s interesting that there wasn’t more chatter about new technology during this time frame. And, as someone who was on Red River 2 days before that terrible tragedy, my heart goes out to everyone affected by it.
