As WordPress continues to capture enterprise marketshare, we continue to get many more requests from large businesses who have beautiful sites designed by amazing branding and graphic design companies – but lack the optimization needed to impact their organic search results. Before we even work on content strategies for our clients, we start with assisting them with optimization. There’s not much of a use for investing in premium content if your site doesn’t get found!
Slow websites influence bounce rates, conversion rates, and even your search engine rankings. That said, I’m surprised by the number of sites that are still gruelingly slow. Adam showed me a site today hosted on GoDaddy that was taking in excess of 10 seconds to load. That poor person thinks they’re saving a couple bucks on hosting… instead they’re losing tons of money because prospective clients are bailing on them. We’ve grown our readership quite
A few weeks ago, someone in my Facebook network asked what best social sharing button plugins were out there for WordPress. I loved the simplicity of JetPack’s Publicize and the fact that it was developed by Automattic programmers (the developers of WordPress); however, either my host settings or some plugin rendered the sharing popup useless (thanks to Michael Stelzner for pointing that out!). GetResponse has put together an infographic on the overall impact of social sharing on email click-through rates… and the results are quite striking. The number of users who include social sharing buttons in their emails increased from 18.3% to 29.4%. Compared to last year’s results, that’s an increase of 61%. What’s even more striking is the exceptionally high performance results for newsletters that included social sharing buttons. Those emails had an average click-through-rate (CTR) 158%
Today I had a fantastic day with the web team at Angie’s List. Angie’s List has been developing their site into an incredible resource library… and all the while they’ve continued to speed up their site. Their pages load at blinding speed. If you don’t believe me, pop up this page on Garage Doors. The page incorporates images, video, and social buttons… and still loads in milliseconds. Comparing their site to mine is like racing
Some of the feedback I’ve received from readers is that I’ve not been providing a lot of feedback about blogging on Martech Zone. So – today I thought I’d take a different approach and look at the technology around your blogging program to provide readers with a checklist of features to review and ensure their blog has. Robots.txt – If you go to the root (base address) of your domain, add robots.txt to the address.
Robert Scoble asks, What are the tech bloggers missing? Your business! The post hit a nerve with me. Robert is absolutely right! As I read my RSS feeds on a daily basis, I’m tired of the same crap over and over again. Are Microsoft and Yahoo! talking again? Is Steve Jobs still running Apple? As Facebook continues to grow exponentially, will the ad revenue continue to suck? What is each founder of each mega-dot-com doing
