As someone who’s been measuring the overall chatter at SXSW for three years running, I decided to do a little experiment this year by comparing the data science (i.e. social listening) with a data sample (i.e. walking up 6th street with a camera crew and asking people silly questions).

Now, whether this is the first time that someone who reports to Barack Obama was used in a marketing data study alongside a cat and a guy who posts ridiculous things on Instagram is a question we didn’t answer. But hey, that’s the Internet.
