A program run by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to provide assistance to small and medium-sized manufacturers in the United States. The program is designed to help manufacturers improve their competitiveness and increase productivity by providing access to technical assistance, training, and other resources.
The Manufacturing Extension Partnership program partners with state-based organizations known as Manufacturing Extension Partnerships (MEP Centers) across the US. These centers provide services such as:
- Technical assistance in areas such as process improvement, lean manufacturing, and quality control
- Training and education in areas such as advanced manufacturing technologies and cybersecurity
- Assistance with compliance with regulations and standards, such as OSHA and ISO standards
- Access to networks of industry experts and peer companies
- Help in identifying and applying for funding and financing opportunities
The MEP program’s goal is to help small and medium-sized manufacturers in the US to create jobs, increase profits and save time and money. The program is funded by the federal government and also receives funding from state and local government and private sector partners.
