What is Drupal?

Are you looking at Drupal? Have you heard of Drupal but are not sure what it can do for you? Is the Drupal icon just so cool that you want to be a part of this movement?

Drupal is a free and open-source content management platform powering millions of websites and applications. It’s built, used, and supported by an active and diverse community of people around the world.

Drupal was first developed in 2001 by Dries Buytaert, a student at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. At the time, Buytaert was looking for a way to manage his personal website, and he created a simple system for organizing and publishing content. He called this system Drupal, which is a Dutch word meaning drop.

Buytaert initially released Drupal as an open-source project, meaning that anyone could access the source code and make modifications to it. Over time, Drupal grew in popularity and a community of developers and users began to form around the project.

The content management system (CMS) is written in PHP and distributed under the GNU General Public License. Drupal is used to manage and publish web content, such as blogs, forums, news articles, and e-commerce stores.

Drupal is designed to be flexible and extensible, allowing users to customize its functionality through the use of modules and themes. It has a large and active community of developers and users who contribute to its ongoing development and support.

Drupal is often used by large organizations and government agencies because of its robust security features and ability to handle large amounts of content.
