Our Verified Author Links Result in a 484% Higher Click-Through Rate

If you’re a publisher, SEO professional or a CMS platform, you should already have implemented a means for verified ownership. Authorship has been around for a few months and has gone through some fine-tuning, resulting in a great feature that really enhances your search engine visibility.

In fact, I’d question any SEO company that’s not pushing their clients to ensure they have accomplished this. I’ve written about verified ownership and how to implement rich snippets in WordPress. It’s not as easy as dropping in a plugin (yet), but it is essential.

Why? Google has finally provided the data to prove how effective having your verified author image is in search results. Within Google Webmasters, there’s now a section in Labs dedicated to tracking your verified authorship pages:

Within MarTech, there’s a 484% difference in click-through rate on our verified author links in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) than on our other pages. That means that folks are almost 5 times as likely to click on our links with the author photo than links without it in the SERP.

484%!

If you’re a publisher and you’ve not implemented rel=author, rel=me and publisher links, you need to do it immediately. If you’re an SEO professional, you should be pushing all of your clients to implement this solution. If you’re a CMS, this feature is a must.

Do it. Now.

I have written a step by step for implementing “rel=author” that WordPress users my find helpful.  You can find that tutorial here :
    http://www.devonwebdesigners.com/3278/relauthor-step-by-step-for-wordpress/

It show you how to do it using Google’s more recent instructions – i.e. the simpler method.   The 484%levels of improved click through rate may not translate to everyone right away, as it seems you need quite a bit of social Klout if author images are to show (at least for now).   Either that or the images are not yet rolled out everywhere. If anyone knows please tell.

Thanks Elizabeth! We’ve definitely seen some irregularity in the display of the images on the Search Engine Result Pages. As Google continues to improve authorship and roll out further enhancements, I’m sure we’ll need to make a few adjustments here and there!

My image started showing up finally.  Took a while.  We’ve also implemented a WordPress plugin to help do Authorship markup.  Please see what you think – it’s called AuthorSure and can be downloaded free from WordPress.

I saw a 38% increase in my click through on exercisesandworkouts.com and a lot of people are skeptical. But the number don’t lie!

Hmmn, good read, and I am not surprised, but we don’t have the “Author Stats” in our webmaster tools, although we do have the authorship verified.
