DAI
DAI is the acronym for Dynamic Ad Insertion.

Dynamic Ad Insertion
A sophisticated technology used in digital advertising to dynamically insert ads into audio and video content. This method enhances the relevance of advertisements for each viewer or listener by considering various factors like location, viewing or listening platform, and demographic data. DAI facilitates a more personalized and targeted advertising approach, unlike traditional methods where the same ads are broadcast to all audiences.
Here’s how DAI works for both audio and video advertising:
- Content Preparation: Audio and video content is prepared for ad insertion. This involves marking specific points within the content, known as ad markers or ad cues, where ads can be seamlessly inserted.
- Ad Decision System (ADS): When a viewer or listener requests content, the ADS selects the most appropriate ads based on the individual’s data and the available ad inventory. This system ensures the ads are relevant to the audience’s interests and demographics.
- Ad Insertion: The chosen ads are inserted into the audio or video stream in real-time or near-real-time. This insertion can occur on the server side (before the content is delivered to the user) or on the client side (as the content is being played on the user’s device).
- Viewer/Listener Experience: The audience experiences ads seamlessly integrated into the content, making them less intrusive and more relevant. In video content, these ads appear as part of the video stream, while in audio content, they are inserted at designated points without disrupting the flow of the listening experience.
DAI is particularly advantageous in over-the-top (OTT) media services, live streaming, podcast platforms, and video on demand (VOD). It benefits advertisers by enabling more precise targeting, enhances content providers’ ability to monetize their offerings, and improves the overall experience for viewers and listeners by delivering ads that are more pertinent and less disruptive.
