Web Open Font Format

A font format created specifically for web use that is a container format to wrap existing font formats (like TrueType or OpenType) with compression and metadata.

WOFF2

WOFF2 uses improved compression algorithms (Brotli) to achieve ~30% better compression than WOFF. Benefits include:

• Smaller file sizes (faster loading)
• Better browser support
• More efficient memory usage
• Mandatory compression (unlike optional in WOFF)

Both formats support subsetting (including only needed characters) and metadata for licensing/attribution. All modern browsers support WOFF2, with WOFF as a fallback for older browsers.
