The Broadcasting Technology Association (BTA) was a Japanese standardization organization that focused on the efficient use of the radio spectrum and the promotion of broadcasting technology. Its activities included the development of standards and the support of frequency changes. The BTA was designated as the center for the promotion of these activities in Japan. The organization was known in Japanese as 電波産業会 (Denpa sangyō-kai) and was commonly referred to as ARIB (アライブ, araibu). The BTA's work was integrated into the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB), which continues to carry out the BTA's activities.
History and Integration
The BTA's functions were absorbed by ARIB, which is now the primary organization responsible for the efficient use of the radio spectrum and the promotion of broadcasting technology in Japan. ARIB is designated as the center for these activities and is also the designated frequency change support agency. The organization's activities include those previously performed by the Research and Development Center for Radio Systems (RCR) and the BTA.
Standards and Collaboration
ARIB is a participating standards organization of the Global Standards Collaboration initiative and an organizational partner of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). This collaboration allows ARIB to work with other international standards organizations to develop and promote global standards for broadcasting technology and the efficient use of the radio spectrum.
