RES

RES is the Acronym for Regulated Electronic Signature

A middle-tier signature unique to Swiss law, the Regulated Electronic Signature (RES) operates similarly to an Advanced Electronic Signature (AES) but adds extra security by requiring certificates issued by a regulated Swiss trust service provider and a secure signature-creation device. It is best suited for administrative procedures, regulated industry compliance, and specific B2B contracts where an AES isn’t strict enough but a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) isn’t legally required.

Legal Weight and Evidentiary Value

  • Legal weight: High. RES carries substantial evidentiary weight in Switzerland due to the involvement of a regulated authority.

Use Cases

  • Administrative procedures: Ideal for government and public sector documentation.
  • Regulated industry compliance: Meets stringent requirements in sectors like finance and healthcare.
  • Specific B2B contracts: Provides a secure alternative when a QES is not mandatory.
