FIDO
FIDO is the acronym for Fast IDentity Online.

Fast IDentity Online
A passwordless authentication standard that uses public key cryptography to enhance security and user convenience. During registration with an online service, the user’s device generates a cryptographic key pair, keeping the private key and registering the public key with the service. These keys, known as passkeys, are unique to each service and resistant to phishing.
Authentication with FIDO involves the user’s device proving possession of the private key through a local verification method such as a biometric, PIN, or security key. This method ensures that biometric information, if used, never leaves the user’s device, thus protecting user privacy.
