A type of resource record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that specifies a mail server responsible for accepting email messages on behalf of a recipient's domain. A domain may have multiple MX records, typically arranged with a priority ranking indicating the order in which the mail servers should be tried. It is possible to configure several MX records, typically pointing to an array of mail servers for load balancing and redundancy.
Priority
MX records have a priority number (or preference). Lower numbers denote higher priority, guiding the order in which servers should be contacted.
Server Identification
They identify the server's hostname that will handle the emails for the domain.
Redundancy and Load Balancing
Multiple MX records allow for redundancy and distribution of email delivery load.
