Web 1.0

Web 1.0 is the acronym for Static Web.

Static Web

Web 1.0, often called the Static Web, marks the earliest phase of the World Wide Web, which lasted from approximately 1991 to 2004. During this period, websites were predominantly static, serving as digital brochures with fixed and seldom-updated content. These sites were primarily informational, offering limited interactivity for users, who mainly were passive content consumers.

The architecture of Web 1.0 was characterized by static HTML pages linked together, without the dynamic capabilities we see today. Content creation was centralized, typically managed by a select group of webmasters or organizations. This era lacked the collaborative features that later defined subsequent web iterations. Users had minimal avenues for interaction, with engagement largely confined to reading content without the ability to comment or contribute.
