Corporate Blogging for Dummies: Triple your Blog’s Traffic with Relevant Visitors
Bob Burchfield has been a long time friend and one of the nicest guys in Indianapolis. He attends all regional events and has the region’s most comprehensive Indianapolis events calendar. Bob dropped this note to me today:
Doug,
I want to share with you about a little blogging project that has gotten going in the past month. One of the county CVB’s (convention and visitor bureaus) asked if they could write a guest blog for my AroundIndy.com blog. I’ve published it daily (and later weekly) since 2008, but never used it for anything other than a top 10 list of things to do in Indianapolis for the coming week. So when I got this request I thought, why not open it up to all the county CVBs and area venues? So I sent an invitation to about 100 of them via e-mail. The articles started coming in overnight. I started publishing one daily, every morning at 6 am, on May 16.
Well………..
For the week of May 16-22, traffic on the blog was up 77.5% from the previous week. For the week of May 23-29, traffic was TRIPLE the previous week. Traffic in May 2011 was 128.6% higher than May 2010. The May 30 guest blog set a one-day site traffic record, up 79.1% from the previous one-day high.
The most interesting thing to me is that if I pick a keyphrase from each blog and do a Google search, it shows up on the first page of Google search results within an hour of being posted.
The inspiration for this effort came from reading Corporate Blogging for Dummies. So I’m just writing to say thank you for all the help, advice, support, and good information that you’ve shared with me (and my students) since we first met at Southside Smoosiers (I still miss those gatherings at The Bean Cup).
Sincerely,
Bob Burchfield, Editor
