The Inter-regional Telecommunications Standards Conference (ITSC) was a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering global standardization in telecommunications. Launched in 1990 by the T1 Committee of the United States, the ITSC brought together key organizations such as ITU-T, ETSI, and the Japanese TTC. The conference was born from the "spirit of Melbourne," a resolution from a CCITT Plenary Assembly, which sought to bridge regional standards organizations to facilitate global cooperation under the ITU.
Focus on Fixed Networks
The ITSC primarily concentrated on standardizing fixed telecommunications networks. Its work laid the groundwork for more efficient and unified telecommunications standards across different regions.
Evolution to GSC
Due to its growing size and complexity, the ITSC transitioned into the Global Standards Collaboration (GSC). This shift aimed to maintain effective collaboration while managing delegation sizes more efficiently. The GSC continues the legacy of the ITSC by promoting global standardization in telecommunications.
