NSFL

NSFL is the Acronym for Not Safe for Life

Not safe for life is a warning that material is more disturbing than ordinary workplace-inappropriate content. It is applied to graphic violence, severe injury, or other images and descriptions that can distress a viewer who was only expecting something rude. The label is a custom of communities. It is not a legal category.

It is a step beyond Not Safe For Work (NSFW). The milder label says not to open it in an office. This one says the content can be hard to tolerate anywhere.

What the Warning Is For

  • Graphic harm. Injury, gore, or a death shown in detail.
  • A stronger expectation. Viewers who accept rude content may still not want this.
  • Not a statute. A moderator or an author applies it. A court does not.
