Property Advisers to the Civil Estate

A UK government organization responsible for providing property-related advice and services to government departments and agencies. One of the two entities, along with the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA), merged to form the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) in 2000. Key responsibilities of PACE:

1. Property Strategy: PACE developed and implemented property strategies to use government property assets efficiently. It advised on the acquisition, management, and disposal of properties to meet the operational needs of government departments.
2. Property Management: PACE provided property management services to government departments, including facilities management, maintenance, and lease management.

4. Property Standards: PACE developed and maintained standards and guidelines for designing, constructing, and managing government properties.
5. Property Efficiency: PACE worked to identify opportunities for improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of government property holdings, such as through space optimization and co-location of departments.

After the merger with CCTA in 2000, the property-related functions of PACE were integrated into the OGC. The OGC continued to provide property advice and services to government departments, along with its other responsibilities in procurement, project management, and IT service management.

The work of PACE contributed to the efficient management of the UK government’s property portfolio and helped to ensure that government departments had access to suitable and cost-effective property solutions to support their operations. Its merger with CCTA to form the OGC was part of a broader initiative to streamline government operations and improve the delivery of government services.
