SEA

SEA is the acronym for Search Engine Advertising.

Search Engine Advertising

A form of online marketing where advertisers pay to display ads in search engine results pages (SERPs). Unlike Search Engine Optimization (SEO), which focuses on improving organic (unpaid) search rankings through content optimization and technical strategies, SEA involves paid campaigns, typically conducted through platforms like Google Ads or Bing Ads.

Key points about SEA:

  • Pay-Per-Click (PPC): Most SEA campaigns operate on a pay-per-click PPC model, where advertisers pay only when users click their ads.
  • Ad Placement: Ads appear at the top or bottom of SERPs, often labeled as sponsored or ad.
  • Targeting: SEA allows precise targeting based on keywords, location, demographics, and user behavior.
  • Speed: Unlike SEO, which can take months to show results, SEA delivers immediate visibility.
  • Cost: Costs vary based on keyword competition, bid strategy, and campaign optimization.

Example: A business bids on keywords like buy shoes online to display their ad when users search that term. They pay for each click, aiming to drive traffic and conversions.

SEA complements SEO by providing instant visibility while organic rankings build over time. Both come under the umbrella of Search Engine Marketing (SEM).
