SKAdNetwork

SKAdNetwork is the Acronym for StoreKit Attribution Network

Apple’s StoreKit Attribution Network (SKAdNetwork) enhances user privacy while allowing advertisers to measure campaign performance on iOS devices. The framework addresses growing concerns about data privacy by limiting access to user-level data while still providing insights into ad effectiveness.

Privacy Protection

SKAdNetwork was developed in response to increasing privacy concerns. It restricts the amount of data advertisers can access, protecting users’ personal information while enabling campaign measurement.

Attribution

The framework assigns a unique identifier to each ad campaign stored on the user’s device. This allows advertisers to determine which campaigns led to app installations or other post-install events.

Limited Data

Unlike traditional attribution methods, SKAdNetwork provides limited data. Advertisers receive information about whether an ad campaign resulted in an installation but do not get detailed user-level data.

Aggregated Reporting

Advertisers can access aggregated campaign data, which helps protect user privacy by preventing identification of specific users.

Conversion Value

SKAdNetwork allows advertisers to send a conversion value back to the ad network. This value can represent different actions or events within the app, providing more context about user behavior.

Postbacks

Ad networks receive postbacks from Apple’s SKAdNetwork servers. These postbacks contain aggregated data about the performance of their ad campaigns, helping advertisers optimize their strategies.

SKAdNetwork is particularly important for mobile app marketers advertising on iOS devices. It aligns with Apple’s privacy-focused approach and the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework, allowing advertisers to measure campaign performance while respecting user privacy. Mobile advertising is a form of advertising via mobile (wireless) phones or other mobile devices. It is a subset of mobile marketing, mobile advertising can take place as text ads via SMS, or banner advertisements that appear embedded in a mobile web site. It is estimated that global mobile app-installed ads accounted for two-thirds of all mobile advertising revenue in 2023 and made $315 billion. This segment is projected to have a double-digit growth rate until 2027. Other ways mobile advertising can be purchased include working with a mobile demand-side platform, in which ad impressions are bought in real-time on an ad exchange.
