Sellfy: Open a Digital Shop Without Building One

Creators who sell presets, courses, tracks, or templates often spend the first month on the store instead of the work. The trickiest parts are the checkout process, the file that arrives after payment, and a way to charge again next month. Building those pieces, then keeping them patched, is how a side project turns into an operations role.

The buyer does not care which cart you wired up. They care that the download starts, the receipt makes sense, and the next charge does not surprise them. Everything between the product and that moment is overhead.

Sellfy

Sellfy is a hosted store for that job. Creators sell digital downloads, subscriptions, physical goods, and print-on-demand merch from a Sellfy storefront, their own domain, or an embed on a site they already have.

What is Sellfy and how does it work

The store, the files, and the checkout sit on Sellfy’s servers. A sale sends the file by email. There is no separate download host to keep online, and the seller is not assembling a cart plugin on top of a site they also have to patch.

Buyers can pay with PayPal or Stripe, including Apple Pay and Google Pay where those wallets are offered. Sellfy does not hold the money. It lands in the seller’s own PayPal or Stripe account.

The plan is a subscription, billed monthly or yearly, and the yearly term costs less than paying month by month. There is no ongoing free plan. A 14-day trial lets you build the store before you upgrade, and you have to upgrade before a buyer can pay. Each of the three plans includes an annual sales cap that rises as you move up. Sellfy does not add its own transaction fee. The payment processor still charges its fee. If sales exceed the cap and you stay on the lower plan, Sellfy can bill an overage fee on revenue above that cap. Beyond the highest published cap, the company asks you to contact sales. A 30-day money-back window starts when the paid plan begins. Email credits scale with the plan, and you can buy more. Higher plans add upsells, cart-abandonment mail, an affiliate program, and the option to remove Sellfy branding. The highest plan adds priority support.

Today, over 75,000 creators have sold more than $165 million worth of products with Sellfy.

Sellfy, About

Those two counts are not the same thing. One is the number of creators Sellfy says have sold through the product. The other is a third party’s count of stores it can still see.

What the Store Includes

The catalog is the part a buyer sees. The tools around it are what keep a one-person shop from turning into a support desk.

  • Affiliate Program: Partners get a commission link. This starts on the higher plans, not the entry plan.
  • Analytics: Sales, visits, orders, and conversions sit in the dashboard and in the phone apps.
  • Cart-Abandonment Emails: A buyer who leaves a full cart can get a follow-up. This is on the higher plans.
  • Coupons and Reviews: Discount codes, pay-what-you-want pricing, and buyer reviews are on every plan.
  • Custom Domain: Every plan can use your domain, with a free SSL certificate. A Sellfy subdomain is there if you are not ready to point a domain.
  • Digital Downloads: Sellfy hosts the files, up to a cap that rises with the plan, and emails the buyer at once. PDF stamping and download limits are the anti-piracy controls. Bandwidth isn’t metered, and you don’t self-host.
  • Embeds: Buy buttons, product cards, and the whole store can sit on a site you already run, or on a social profile. The same links work as YouTube end screens.
  • License Keys: Keys can be generated or uploaded, then checked through an API and webhooks.
  • Mobile Apps: Phone apps for the dashboard, not a second store builder, show revenue, orders, and analytics, and they can send a push when something sells. Install them from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Print on Demand: Sellfy ships shirts, hoodies, mugs, hats, and a few other items from its fulfillment centers. The company does not name the print partners.
  • Sellfy MCP: Store admin is available from Claude or ChatGPT through an MCP connection, on every plan.
  • Subscriptions: Weekly, monthly, or yearly access to a digital product, billed again on that schedule.
  • Upsells: An extra offer at checkout, on the higher plans.
  • VAT Settings: VAT and other tax settings live in the store, so a European buyer is not a spreadsheet you open later.
  • Webhooks: Order and product events can leave the store as soon as they happen.
  • Wix App: Wix has a separate Sell Downloads app. It is not the same account as a Sellfy store, and you can’t mix the two under one login.
  • Zapier: Zapier connects the store to mail tools and the rest of a creator’s stack when a native connection is not enough.

Together, the store can deliver a file, charge again on a schedule, and send a physical item to a fulfillment center, all without a custom cart.

Eleven years. Four million visits. 1.8 million downloads. At FGD, we’ve spent over a decade building a creative community – sharing free & paid design resources and empowering designers worldwide. And through it all, Sellfy has been the foundation that made it possible.

Sign up and use the 14-day trial to pick a template or build the page in the editor. Add a product, then connect PayPal, Stripe, or both. Upgrade to a paid plan before you take a live payment. Share the store link, point a domain at it, or embed a button on a page you already own.

Sellfy publishes setup walkthroughs on its YouTube channel. The phone apps are for viewing orders after the store opens, not for building the storefront.
