ABC

ABC is the Acronym for Always Be Closing

A popular motivational phrase used in sales. It was popularized by the 1992 film Glengarry Glen Ross, based on the 1984 play of the same name by David Mamet.

ABC - Always Be Closing

The phrase emphasizes the importance of constantly working towards closing a sale. It suggests that a salesperson should always take steps to move the sale forward, ultimately leading to a successful close. Key aspects of the Always Be Closing mentality include:

  1. Maintaining a sense of urgency throughout the sales process
  2. Focusing on the end goal of getting the customer to make a purchase
  3. Being persistent and not allowing setbacks or objections to derail the sale
  4. Continuously looking for opportunities to ask for the sale
  5. Having a strong, persuasive sales pitch ready at all times

While the phrase has been widely adopted in sales culture, some argue it promotes a high-pressure, aggressive sales approach that may not always be appropriate or effective in building long-term customer relationships. Modern sales philosophies often emphasize a more customer-centric, consultative approach that balances closing the sale with understanding and meeting the customer’s needs.
