Simple Storage Service

S3 is the acronym for Simple Storage Service.

What is Simple Storage Service?

AWS’s highly durable, scalable, and secure object storage service allows you to store and retrieve large amounts of data, such as files, images, videos, and more, in the cloud.

S3 is designed to provide 99.999999999% durability and 99.99% availability of objects over a given year. S3 provides different storage classes, such as S3 Standard, S3 Standard-Infrequent Access, S3 Glacier, and S3 Glacier Deep Archive, each with different pricing and performance options.

You can create S3 Buckets (which is a container for your objects) and store data in it. S3 Buckets can be accessed from anywhere and via a variety of options like HTTP, HTTPS, and BitTorrent. S3 Buckets can be configured for different levels of access, for example by creating a private bucket that only authorized users can access or by creating a public bucket for open data sets.

S3 also provides additional features such as versioning, lifecycle policies, and cross-region replication, making it a powerful solution for data archiving, backup, and disaster recovery. Additionally, with the S3 Select, it can be used to retrieve only a subset of data from an object, instead of the entire object, which can save time and improve performance.

AWS S3 is widely used in many organizations of various sizes and in different industries, as it provides scalable and low-cost storage, which can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data at any time, from anywhere on the web.
